Adverse Psychiatric Reactions Information Link (APRIL), creates awareness and collates information about adverse psychiatric side effects of everyday medicines.

We invite you to submit details of your own experience - we do not disclose your name but may use the information to inform the health professionals who are often unaware of the extent of suffering due to ADRs.

Many drugs used for physical complaints can have an effect on our mood and behaviour.

Medicines for indigestion, acne, pain, infections, cholesterol, and anaesthetics may be implicated in serious mental changes: plus adverse reactions, or withdrawal symptoms caused by antidepressants, tranquilisers and other psychotropic drugs.

No one in APRIL is paid a salary! but we have much more to do in areas including: Suicide prevention, improvement of medical educatio, withdrawal support for involuntary addicts of benzodiazepine, SSRIs, some pain killers and other medication, persuading coroners & the police to evaluate medical (iatrogenic) causes of sudden death & suicide, reducing polypharmacy due to unrecognised ADRs (Adverse drug reactions).

We have successfully instigated inclusion of adverse reactions and withdrawal effects in Suicide Prevention Strategies in England. The inclusion of depression as a side-effect of Dianette (Diane-35) being included on the patient information. We have increased the level of patient reporting to the regulator. We are supporting efforts to include pharmacology back into the medical curriculum.
The work must go on, as we are the only charity creating awareness of psychiatric adverse reactions (ADRs) to all kinds of medication & anaesthetics.
